Planning an Excursion
Victoria's diverse variety of parks, bays and waterways can provide an amazing environment for school studies and activities. This page provides information to assist planning a park excursion.
Choosing a park
For assistance deciding on a park to visit, use our Find A Park search or visit www.parkweb.vic.gov.au for maps, park notes and condition updates.
Key Education and Interpretation sites
To provide curriculum based education services within our parks, key Education Centres have been developed in a variety of park locations throughout the Victoria. These centres provide the opportunity for schools to integrate excursions with fun, hands on curriculum based activities, tours and programs.
Ranger Led
In addition to the services available at our key education centres, other sites can also offer education programs for schools. Services include guided walks, park welcome talks as well as participation in flora and fauna surveys or tree planting activities. Please note that these services are dependant on local resourcing and staff availability.
Popular parks include the Werribee Park Mansion , Buchan Caves Reserve and the Organ Pipes and Kinglake National Parks .
Guided Adventures and Activities with Tour Operators
Commercial tour operators play a key role in helping schools access and enjoy parks throughout Victoria . Parks Victoria currently licenses around 270 tour operators, who in turn offer guided tourism and recreation opportunities in land and marine parks across Victoria. Operators can provide recreational and outdoor educational services including rock climbing, abseiling, mountain bike riding, boating, bushwalking, snorkelling, surfing and canoeing.
For more information and a list of current licensed tour operators, please visit the Guided Tours page.
Self Guided Activities
In addition to the various guided activities available, many parks offer fun things to see and do without the need for guides. You may like to run your own activity in one of our parks.
If you are planning an independent excursion, please remember to notify the local park staff of your visit. Discuss your plans with our Information Centre on 13 1963 or request to be connected to a local park office.
